Bitter Sweet Hell was originally scheduled for the latter half of 2023 under the title "Gaslighting," the series underwent changes in production and casting. Initially led by writer and director Kim Seung-woo, known for the film "Bring Me Home. The series faced a temporary halt in filming due to scheduling conflicts and a change in the production company from JPX Studio to Red Nine Pictures.



Actress Kang Hae-rim was initially casted as Lee Se-na (a mysterious figure harboring secrets) but was replaced by Yeonwoo after the production reorganization. The series' directorship also changed hands to Lee Dong-hyun, known for works like "She Knows Everything" and "Doctor Lawyer," adding further anticipation to the drama's release.
